LITTLE ROCK — President Obama on Wednesday issued a federal disaster declaration for six northern Arkansas counties affected by severe storms and flooding last month.
The declaration includes Benton, Boone, Carroll, Madison, Marion and Newton counties, which experienced damaging storms Aug. 8-14.
The declaration makes federal funding available to government entities and certain nonprofit organizations for emergency work and the repair or replacement of facilities damaged by the severe weather in the designated counties.
Federal funding is also available on a cost-sharing basis for hazard mitigation measures. Every county in the state can apply for hazard mitigation funding.
