LITTLE ROCK — Legislation to let churches decide whether to allow concealed handguns inside is headed to the governor.

The Senate on Tuesday gave final legislative approval to Senate Bill 71 by Sen. Bryan King, R-Green Forest. Current law bans guns in churches. King’s bill would give individual churches the right to decide whether to let holders of concealed handgun permits carry a gun inside the facility.

The bill had already passed the Senate and House but was back in the Senate on Tuesday for approval of an amendment to add sponsors. It passed on a 34-1 vote. Gov. Mike Beebe said he would sign the bill.
