WASHINGTON — House Speaker John Boehner is scheduled to headline a fundraiser for U.S. Rep. Tom Cotton, R-Dardanelle, on Wednesday at the Capital Hill Club in the nation’s capital.
Doug Coutts, who was Cotton’s campaign manager in 2012, downplayed any significance to Wednesday’s fundraiser with Boehner, saying the House speaker is holding similar events for other House Republicans.
"It’s part of the normal cycle of fundraisers to replenish their coffers," said Coutts, who is now Cotton’s chief of staff.
Coutts noted that Boehner had helped raise funds for Cotton during the 2012 election.
The freshman 4th District congressman has not said whether he will seek re-election in 2014 or challenge for U.S. Sen. Mark Pryor’s seat.
Pryor is the only Democrat left in Arkansas’ congressional delegation.
