LITTLE ROCK — Former state Sen. Randy Laverty was named commissioner of Arkansas Rehabilitation Services on Wednesday.
State Department of Career Education Director Bill Walker, who served with Laverty in the Senate, announced the appointment, effective Feb. 3. The new commissioner will be formally introduced to the ARS staff Friday, Walker said.
Laverty will succeed Randy Parker, who was named interim ARS commissioner in October.
Laverty is a former state Department of Human Services official in Newton County and an assistant DHS director of county operations.
He served 16 years in the state Legislature — in the House from 1995 to 2001 and in the Senate from 2003 through Monday.
