LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Scholarship Lottery has raised $300 million for scholarships, state lottery officials said Monday.
The lottery launched on Sept. 28, 2009, and by the end of September of this year it had netted $286 million for scholarships. By the end of November, net proceeds had reached the $300 million mark, aided by a surge in Powerball ticket sales when the jackpot for that game reached a record $587.5 million last month.
The lottery has provided funds for more than 90,000 scholarships, state Lottery Director Bishop Woosley said.
Arkansas voters approved the lottery in 2008. All proceeds after prizes and expenses go to fund scholarships.
Lottery tickets are sold at nearly 1,900 businesses in all 75 Arkansas counties.
