LITTLE ROCK — Crews have begun a months-long restoration of the state Capitol dome, Secretary of State Mark Martin announced Monday.
Work will continue through the fall and include repainting of the dome’s interior.
"It has been several years since the dome’s interior was repainted, and this will enhance the Capitol’s appearance," Martin said in a news release.
An $800,000 grant from the Arkansas Natural and Cultural Resources Council is funding the project, he said, adding that work should be complete before winter activities begin at the Capitol.
The Capitol has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1974.
