LITTLE ROCK — State Rep. Andrea Lea, R-Russellville, announced Tuesday she will seek the Republican nomination for state auditor next year.

Lea was first elected to the state House in 2008 and has been re-elected twice. She is prohibited by term limits from running for a fourth House term.

She is a former member of the Pope County Quorum Court and the Russellville City Council. She currently serves as chairman of the House Committee on State Agencies and Governmental Affairs.

"I want to take my experience and put it to work," Lea told the Arkansas News Bureau. "I think the office needs to be run in an efficient manner. I have experience working with state agencies already and feel like I could continue that."

Republican Ken Yang of Benton has also announced his intention to run for state auditor. No Democrat has yet announced as a candidate for the office.

State Auditor Charlie Daniels, a Democrat, has said he will retire when his term ends.
