Well where did those two weeks go?

I’m back on the clock this morning after taking two weeks off to rest, relax and get ready for the 2012 football season. The first order of business this morning is going through emails and other items the piled up over the past two weeks. Then it’s time to jump in the car and drive to Hoover, Ala., where SEC Media Days begins Tuesday and runs through Thursday. Arkansas (which will be represented by coach John L. Smith, quarterback Tyler Wilson, running back Knile Davis and linebacker Tenarius Wright) will meet with the media Wednesday.

Before we get there another question: What happened while I was gone?

Well, it appears there were plenty of football preseason watch lists released for starters. Several more will be released this week, but here’s a roundup of what has happened so far:

• Preseason All-SEC team (SEC Coaches)
- First team: QB Tyler Wilson, RB Knile Davis, WR Cobi Hamilton, KR/RB Dennis Johnson
- Second team: TE Chris Gragg, OG Alvin Bailey, LB Alonzo Highsmith
- Third team: C Travis Swanson, P Dylan Breeding, PK Zack Hocker

• Maxwell Award Watch List
— QB Tyler Wilson, RB Knile Davis, WR Cobi Hamilton

• Outland Trophy Watch List
— OG Alvin Bailey and C Travis Swanson

• Mackey Award Watch List
— TE Chris Gragg

• Rimington Trophy Wach List
— C Travis Swanson

• Lou Groza Award Watch List
— PK Zack Hocker

• Ray Guy Award Watch List
— P Dylan Breeding

And, quickly, some other news items that took place while I was gone (in case you were under a rock or away from the computer as well):

• John L. Smith told the Associated Press he may be forced to file bankruptcy because of the financial hit he has taken in his real estate ventures in Kentucky. Smith told the AP he’s not embarrassed by it and knows it won’t affect his work as a football coach. Neither does Arkansas athletic director Jeff Long, who said he was aware of it when considering Smith as Bobby Petrino’s replacement in April.

• The status of the three suspended players (Marquel Wade, Maudrecus Humphrey, Andrew Peterson) arrested and charged with stealing items from unlocked dorm rooms on campus remains in limbo. Smith told the media during a press opportunity Friday the three are not featured in Arkansas’ media guide. He said a decision will be made on their status before preseason practice begins August 2.

• One other interesting nugget from Friday’s media gathering: Smith confirmed QB Brandon Mitchell has been working out at wide receiver some this summer. Mitchell remains a quarterback, but it sounds like Arkansas is preparing him for another role if freshman Brandon Allen wins the No. 2 job behind Tyler Wilson.

• The Major League Baseball signing deadline passed Friday. Six Razorbacks (Matt Reynolds, DJ Baxendale, Nolan Sanburn, Sam Bates, Derrick Bleeker and Tim Carver) signed with their teams. So did four Arkansas signees. The list of who didn’t sign included pitcher Randall Fant and outfielder Jacob Morris.
