FAYETTEVILLE — Former Arkansas coach Bobby Petrino could be a popular person in the coaching carousel this winter.

It's too early to tell if Petrino will actually land a prime job in the next few weeks after the fallout from his motorcyle accident last April. But thre's one well-known coach, and a former Razorback football player at that, who believes Petrino should get another chance next season.

There's a twist, too. Jimmy Johnson believes Petrino should get the opportunity at .... Arkansas.

Johnson, the former Dallas Cowboys coach and Fox NFL analyst, told Jack Arute and Gino Torretta on SiriusXM radio Tuesday the Razorbacks should give Petrino another chance.

“Some people might laugh, but I’m serious about it. If they want an outstanding coach they ought to bring back (Bobby) Petrino or hire Butch Davis. And people say, ‘How in the world can you bring back Petrino?’ I said, ‘Listen, you forgave Bill Clinton.’ Forgive the man. Forgive the man for making a bad decision. Give him an opportunity to coach again. ...

"He wants to get back into coaching and he’s a great coach and he made a mistake. This whole country, it’s build on forgiving people and giving them second chances. And I think the fanbase would love to bring him back. But if they don’t bring him back? Butch Davis, give him an opportunity.”

I feel pretty confident in saying Petrino's return won't happen. Butch Davis? We'll have to wait and see.
