FAYETTEVILLE — Arkansas center Travis Swanson has been named to the Rimington Trophy watch list.
The Rimington Trophy is presented annually to the nation's top center.
Swanson is among 44 players — nine from the Southeastern Conference — on the preseason list.
The 6-foot-5, 305-pound Swanson, who was one of Arkansas' team captains last season, has started every game of his college career (38). He will work as the anchor of Arkansas' new-look offensive line under coach Bret Bielema next season. Bielema said all spring he was impressed by Swanson.
"If he's not going to be the best center in college football, I'd like to see," Bielema said. "I've had a couple of good centers where I was at (Wisconsin)."
Former Wisconsin center Peter Konz was the Atlanta Falcons' second round pick during the 2012 NFL Draft. Another former Badgers center, Travis Frederick, was selected by the Dallas Cowboys the 31st pick in the first round last month. Bielema believes Swanson is capable of being better than both of them.
"Travis is right there and might be a little bit taller and a little bit longer, which gives him a chance even higher," Bielema said of Swanson.
