LITTLE ROCK — Beginning Oct. 3, “enhanced” driver’s licenses and ID cards will be available at 25 revenue offices across the state, the Arkansas Department of Finance and Administration said Monday.

The enhanced licenses are designed to be difficult to tamper with, thereby decreasing the possibility of identity theft, and will require background checks for applicants. Standard licenses will continue to be available, the agency said in a news release.

Under federal rules, by October 2020 an enhanced driver’s license or ID card will be needed to board a commercial passenger flight. Similar rules will apply to entering federal buildings and installations.
