LITTLE ROCK — The director of the Helena-West Helena’s public housing authority was arrested Friday in connection with the alleged theft of nearly $58,000 in public funds.
Lionell S. Moss, 58, executive director of the Helena Housing Authority, is charged in a federal indictment with theft of government funds and theft concerning programs receiving federal funds, according to a news release from Chris Thyer, U.S. attorney for the Eastern District of Arkansas.
The indictment alleges that between October 2011 and January 2015 Moss submitted false and fraudulent reimbursement requests for sick leave and annual leave and made personal expenditures using the housing authority’s credit cards.
Moss appeared Friday in U.S. District Court in Little Rock and was released on bond pending trial. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison and fined up to $250,000.
