Ruth Doyle Intermediate School math teacher Peggy Carter was named Conway’s Teacher of the Year.

Phil Dayer and Wendy Furguson of McDowell Properties were pictured relaxing at their Hee-Haw-themed booth at the Faulkner County Homebuilders Association Table-Top Exhibit and Dinner held at the Agora Conference Center.

Ty Miller and Wade Collins opened 24/7 Fitness Center at 605 Salem Road.

The Conway boys golf team won the 7A state title. Members pictured were Nick Brady, Ethan King, Chris Stalnaker, Jack Clark and Stewart Clark.

Four Winds Church held a reception for Mel and Rosemary Farmer who were moving to Johnson City, Tennessee.

Julie Zellner was named the 1993 Greenbrier High School homecoming queen. Senior maids were Julie McNulty and Laura Anglea. Junior maids were Cassie Rowlett and Ami Sims.

Sophomore maids were Amanda Wilkins and Cassie Tittle.

Mandy Lewis was named the 1993 Vilonia High School homecoming queen. Senior maids were Tiffany Styles and Jodi Watson. Junior maids were Gayla Kidd and Brandy Kivlehen. Sophomore maids were Keri Harris and Stephanie McNespey.

Mack’s General Store held a grand opening at Pickles Gap Village. The store featured a variety of hand-crafted items, knives and collectibles.

Dr. Carl Forsberg, violinist, and Mrs. Horace Adams, violoncellist, performed as members of the Arkansas Symphony Orchestra at its premiere concert in Little Rock.

H.P. Hankins of Shady Grove opened a $30,000 wholesale poultry and egg business on Highway 64 north in Conway. Hankins Poultry & Egg would offer a variety of poultry products that would be available fresh or frozen.

Earl P. Stacy, owner and manager of Conway Bowl, opened a new roller rink adjacent to the bowling alley. The floor, made of solid plastic, was 70 feet wide and 140 feet long. Starkey Construction was the contractor.


75 Years Ago

The Southern Farmers Insurance Company purchased the brick business building at 1010 Front Street, just north of the First National Bank Building, from W.H. Reynolds. The building would also house the Kellar-Dunaway-Benton Insurance agency and the United Burial Association.

The opening party for the new recreational room in the high school vocational building was held from 7-10 p.m. All high school students and their parents were invited to call.

Local option petitions making the county court call a special election to make Faulkner County dry would be in circulation within the week.


100 Years Ago

From the Enola column: Mr. Ryan of Enders was helping his son-in-law, Homer Poe, gather his corn.

Dr. Hardy filled an appointment by giving a strong appeal to the people to stand by the boys in France, but only $600 was raised in volunteer subscriptions. “Surely our people will yet reconsider the matter and will yet rally to help the brave, noble and heroic men who have left all to protect our homes from invasion and destruction.”

The Baptists called Rev. P.H. Glover to serve them again as pastor for the year.
