LITTLE ROCK — Bids for a project to replace the Broadway Bridge spanning the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock call for the bridge to be closed between six months and a year, well under the amount of time highway officials had estimated it would be closed.

The Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department opened bids Wednesday for the project, which department officials had said could cause the bridge to be closed for up to two years. The as-read low bid, from Massman Construction of Kansas City, Mo., is for $98.4 million and calls for the bridge to be closed for 180 days.

The department will review the bids before awarding the project. The other bids range from $114.2 million to $115.4 million and call for closure times ranging from 250 days to 350 days.
