LITTLE ROCK — The Arkansas Highway Commission and the Arkansas Highway and Transportation Department said Friday they have accepted the lowest of four bids to replace the Broadway Bridge spanning the Arkansas River between Little Rock and North Little Rock.

Highway officials accepted a bid from Massman Construction of Kansas City, Mo., to replace the bridge for $98.4 million. The company has said it expects the bridge to be shut down for six months, which is the shortest closure proposed by any of the bidders.

The date the bridge will be closed to traffic has not yet been determined.

The contract is the largest ever awarded by the Highway Commission.
