LITTLE ROCK — The bodies of two boaters who disappeared on Lake Maumelle on Wednesday were recovered from the lake Thursday, the state Game and Fish Commission said.

The search for Joseph Greenway, 29, of Paron and Anthony Mayfield, 27, of Perryville began Wednesday afternoon after an unoccupied boat was spotted on the lake, according to the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office, which searched for the men until late Wednesday night.

The Game and Fish Commission took over the search at about 8 a.m. Thursday, commission spokesman Keith Stephens said. After the commission’s sonar found images that appeared to be bodies, a Grant County dive team recovered the bodies at about 2:30 p.m., he said.

An unattended vehicle and boat trailer were found parked at the lake’s edge, Stephens said.

The bodies were sent to the state Crime Laboratory in Little Rock for autopsies. Greenway and Mayfield were not wearing life jackets, Stephens said.

The men’s deaths are Arkansas’ first boating fatalities of 2016, according to Stephens.
