LITTLE ROCK — Republican presidential candidate Marco Rubio will hold a rally in downtown Little Rock on Sunday, his campaign said Friday.

The rally is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. at the Statehouse Convention Center. Rubio will visit Arkansas a day after the South Carolina primary and nine days before Arkansas’ March 1 primary.

Rubio has received endorsements from several Arkansas elected officials, including Lt. Gov. Tim Griffin and U.S. Reps. Steve Womack, R-Rogers, and Rick Crawford, R-Jonesboro. Sunday’s event will be the Florida senator’s first public appearance in Arkansas since he entered the presidential race.

The Arkansas Legislature has moved the state’s 2016 primary up from May to allow the state to participate in Super Tuesday, the day when more than a dozen states, several of them in the Southeast, will hold primaries or caucuses.

Other presidential candidates who have visited Arkansas in advance of the primary include real estate mogul and reality TV star Donald Trump, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson and former Arkansas and U.S. first lady and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.
