LITTLE ROCK — The number of homes sold in Arkansas in March increased by 7 percent compared to a year earlier, and the average price of homes sold increased by 5.1 percent, the Arkansas Realtors Association said Thursday.

The association said 2,159 homes sold in the 43-county area it surveyed in March, up from 2,017 in March 2012. The average price of a home in March was $154,478, up from $146,920 a year earlier.

Benton County had the most homes sold in March with 412, followed by Pulaski County with 342, Washington County with 191, Saline County with 131 and Faulkner County with 127.

In Sebastian County, 102 homes were sold. Thirty-four were sold in Jefferson County.

The average home prices for the month were highest in Benton County at $182,521, followed by Craighead County at $177,727, Pulaski County at $174,745, Saline County at $171,888 and Washington County at $170,456.

The average home price was $144,000 in Sebastian County and $81,008 in Crawford County.
