FAYETTEVILLE – This week we continue our look at a team-by-team opponent analysis of the Arkansas football schedule. Today is Week 8

A break at last.

Following four straight weeks of the type of opponents that make the Arkansas schedule one of the 10 toughest in the nation, the Razorbacks host Football Championship Subdivision’s Tennessee-Martin.

It will either be much-needed relief for the Razorbacks or a gnat-like bother in the middle of a rough-and-tumble season.

Tennessee-Martin isn’t as bad as the FCS team Arkansas hosted last season, Nicholls State. That team went winless all year. The Skyhawks finished third in the Ohio Valley conference. But they were blasted by Kentucky in the season opener, 59-14.

The game is more about a break for Arkansas than anything Tennessee-Martin brings to the table. It’s homecoming and the Skyhawks provide the perfect opponent for coach Bret Bielema. Homecoming is seen a distraction for many coaches and if the opponent stands almost no chance of winning, that’s all the better.

Tennessee-Martin could serve as a break after the Razorbacks faced Texas A&M, Tennessee, Alabama and Auburn in consecutive weeks to start their SEC season. And a trip to Ole Miss looms after the Skyhawks. By Week 8 the Hogs will know who they are, at any rate.

That means a blowout.
