Then the Diamond Hogs came to bat.

The Arkansas bats did more damage Tuesday than their entire first three-game set with Central Michigan had combined. The final line score recorded 19 Arkansas hits, 10 walks and 21 runs in a smashing of the visiting Delta Devils, 21-4.

Arkansas scored five runs in the bottom of the first to counter Mississippi Valley State’s one in the top. Another five came in the second. Then two. Then one. Then three. It was 16-1 and, part of the starting lineup was yanked and the Razorbacks were on their fourth pitcher, a newcomer, before Mississippi Valley State scored again.

Of the 11 position players Arkansas used, only one failed to reach base. Leftfielder Luke Bonfield has the biggest day. He went 3 for 5 with a walk, five RBIs, four runs, a double and a home run. Catcher Grant Koch nearly matched him at 3 for 4, a walk, four RBIS, a double, triple and two runs.

Freshman Isaiah Campbell started the game and made his team debut. He pitched two innings, allowing two hits and the first run. James Teague (season) and Jordan Rodriguez (team) made their first appearances, too. Newcomers Barrett Loseke, Kacey Murphy and Hunter Hart also pitched.

Teague, who will likely be the most-used bullpen player other than Zach Jackson, struck out the side in his lone inning, though a wild pitch on a third strike meant he faced four batters. Loseke also struck out three batters, though his came in two innings.

Arkansas scored 19 runs combined in its season-opening series against Central Michigan. The Diamond Hogs will finish the two-game series with Mississippi Valley State on Wednesday at 3:05 p.m.
